Print shipping labels and accompanying documents from weclapp via weclappOS

On scan, label, customs papers and dangerous goods document land on the right printer at the packing table, without a print dialog.

weclappOS is weclapp's free desktop client that picks up print jobs from the cloud and sends them to your local printers. weclapp uses it for documents such as invoices or delivery notes. Fulfillment 4 weclapp brings everything else that shipping needs into the same print path: carrier labels, customs papers and the ADR transport document. You do not build a second print infrastructure, nobody clicks through print dialogs, and every document is also attached to the weclapp delivery. Here you can see what gets printed, which printer it lands on and where the limits are.

What gets printed on scan

The scan at the packing table is the trigger. As soon as the delivery is fully packed, the rest happens by itself:

  • Shipping label: The app fetches the label from the carrier, stores it as a document on the weclapp delivery and sends it as a print job to the weclappOS printer at your packing table. Tracking number and the status “Shipped” are then in weclapp.
  • Multi-package shipments: One label and one print job per package. With carton scan, the label of the previous package is created as soon as you start the next one. Details: Multi-package shipments with carton scan
  • Turbo label: With batch picking, the labels for single-item orders are already waiting and are printed when you scan the item at the packing station. Details: Batch picking with turbo label
  • More about the process: Scan the delivery note, print the label and all modes in the scan workflow for weclapp

Three printers per packing table

Label, customs paper and dangerous goods document often need different devices. That is why Fulfillment 4 weclapp knows three printer roles:

  • Label printer: for shipping labels, typically a thermal printer.
  • Customs and enclosure printer: for customs papers, invoice and delivery note as an enclosure, typically an A4 laser printer.
  • Dangerous goods printer: for the ADR transport document.
  • Saved per packer: The choice is tied to the user account. Anyone who logs in at a different packing table chooses their printers there. Multiple weclappOS instances, for example at two sites, appear as separate printers.
  • All details: Printers per packing table: label, customs, dangerous goods

Accompanying documents: customs, invoice, delivery note, ADR

  • Customs papers: For shipments outside the EU, the app also prints the carrier's customs document, optionally together with invoice and delivery note as a customs enclosure. More on this: Zoll-Automatisierung 4 weclapp and Printing customs documents
  • Triplicate, where required: For non-EU shipments, invoice, delivery note and the weclapp customs declaration come in triplicate. For the carrier's customs document, you define via a country list where it goes in triplicate, for example to Switzerland.
  • Paperless customs clearance: If you declare digitally, the customs documents are attached to the delivery but not printed. We set that up with you.
  • ADR transport document: is created at shipping from the dangerous goods data of your items and goes straight to the dangerous goods printer. More on this: Gefahrgut 4 weclapp
  • Documents on status change: weclapp itself prints an invoice or delivery note at a given status via the weclappOS print configuration. How the two work together: What weclapp prints itself and what Fulfillment 4 weclapp adds

Reprints and faults

  • Reprint without rebooking: Every tracking number has a “Reprint label” button in the event list on the scan page, even days later. What is printed is the label you already bought: no new shipment number, no second carrier label.
  • If the document is missing on the delivery, the app fetches the same label from the carrier again.
  • How reprinting works: Reprint a shipping label
  • If nothing comes out of the printer: Usually weclappOS is not running or the printer was renamed. The steps are in the weclappOS checklist

What works where

Label on scan: With all connected carriers, such as DHL Paket, DPD, GLS, Österreichische Post, DHL Express, FedEx, Dachser and Gebrüder Weiss. A running weclappOS with the printer you choose in the app is required. Overview of all carriers: Versanddienstleister 4 weclapp.

Printer choice: Three roles per user account, freely selectable from all printers of your weclappOS instances. There is no rule by carrier, country or warehouse; without a saved choice, the app takes the first printer in the list.

Label format: PDF in thermal format 100×150 for thermal and laser printers. With Österreichische Post you choose between 100×150, 100×200, A4 and A5. If you need ZPL, we set that up with you and the carrier.

Invoice and delivery note: Via Fulfillment 4 weclapp as a customs enclosure for non-EU shipments, with their own switches. weclapp prints all other documents via the weclappOS print configuration.

Trigger: Printing happens on scan at the packing table. A status change in weclapp alone does not create a carrier label.

Feedback: The app hands the print job to weclappOS once. Whether the paper actually came out of the printer is not reported back by weclappOS; that is what reprinting is for.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need additional software for label printing?

Only weclappOS, weclapp's free desktop client. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux on a computer on the same network as your printers. Fulfillment 4 weclapp itself runs in the browser.

Does anyone at the packing table still have to click Print?

No. When the delivery is completed, the label goes straight to the chosen printer as a print job, without a print dialog.

Can I reprint a label without booking a new shipment?

Yes. In the event list on the scan page you reprint any label, with free choice of printer. It stays the same shipment number; nothing new is created at the carrier.

Can customs papers and dangerous goods documents land on a different printer than the label?

Yes. Each packer chooses a label printer, a printer for customs and enclosures and one for dangerous goods. The choice is saved on the user account.

Does Fulfillment 4 weclapp also print invoices and delivery notes?

As a customs enclosure for shipments outside the EU, yes. For general document printing at a given status, you use weclapp's print configuration via weclappOS; both run through the same client.

Does a status change in weclapp automatically create a shipping label?

No. The label is created on scan at the packing table so that it matches the goods actually packed. On completion, the app sets the delivery to “Shipped”.

Which printers do you need at your packing table?

We look at your setup together: weclappOS, label printer, customs printer and the first test print.
