Large orders rarely fit into a single parcel. With the carton scan in Fulfillment 4 weclapp, you first scan the carton, then the items that go into it; at the next carton, the next parcel begins. Every parcel gets its own shipping label, weight and dimensions come from the carton item, and weclapp receives all parcels individually with a tracking number. How this works together with quantity and weight limits and where the carriers play along, you can read here.

How it works

  1. Scan the carton: The carton is an item in weclapp with its own EAN. The scan opens a new parcel; the app takes dimensions and weight from the carton item. For standard cases, you store a default carton per shipping method, which is pre-filled and overwritten by scan. More on this in the blog Carton scan in Fulfillment 4 weclapp.
  2. Scan items: All following item scans land in this parcel. Once the maximum quantity per parcel for an item is reached or the maximum weight per parcel is exceeded, the app asks for the next carton or automatically creates a new parcel. Carrier and small-parcel rules warn you when cheaper shipping would be possible.
  3. Next carton: Scan a new carton, keep packing. An empty parcel cannot be skipped, and the app points this out.
  4. Ship: One label is created per parcel, if you wish already when the next carton starts. weclapp gets the parcels back individually with tracking numbers.

Who it's for

  • B2B shippers with orders across many line items that are distributed across several parcels or pallets.
  • Shops with bulky or heavy items, where the carrier's weight limits determine how parcels are split.
  • Businesses that manage their carton stock in weclapp and want to book it out automatically when shipping.

Limits, honestly

  • Cartons must be set up as items with an EAN in the weclapp product group "Shipping material" (Versandmaterial). If you want to track carton stock, you switch on "Inventory tracking for cartons"; the app then books the cartons out of the selected warehouse when shipping.
  • One label per parcel is available with carriers that support multi-parcel shipping, such as DHL Paket, GLS, FedEx, Dachser, or Gebrüder Weiss. Which carriers can do this is listed on the carrier overview.
  • Items that, according to master data, are packed individually are automatically split into their own parcels by the app.
  • The carton scan requires the item scan. Without EAN confirmation of the items, there is no parcel assignment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the app know the weight and dimensions of the parcels?

From the carton item in weclapp plus the item weights of the assigned line items, optionally plus a packaging weight per shipping method. You can correct deviations before shipping.

Can I repack a parcel afterwards?

As long as the delivery has not been shipped, you reset the progress and scan again. After shipping, labels can only be created again with the setting "Allow duplicate shipping".

What about pallets and SSCC?

SSCC pallet labels are created by the carrier integration, for example with Gebrüder Weiss, Dachser, or Swiss Post Cargo. The carton scan supplies the packages for this.
