Customs master data on the weclapp item

Four fields on the item, and customs just works

The best customs automation fails on empty fields. Fulfillment 4 weclapp reads the customs data directly from the weclapp item; the cleaner the master data, the fewer queries at the packing table and the fewer customs holds at the destination. Described honestly, including the limits: you maintain the fields once in weclapp; the app checks them before every label and tells you what is missing.

The fields in the weclapp item

  • Customs tariff number: the weclapp field “Zolltarifnummer” (customs tariff number) on the item. On request, weclapp can also copy it into the item description on documents, see the weclapp docs.
  • Country of origin: the field “Ursprungsland” (country of origin) on the item, as a country code.
  • Customs description: the goods description for customs, concrete and in English or in the language of the destination country; “goods” or “gift” is not enough for customs.
  • Weight: gross weight on the item, alternatively net weight.
  • Customs value: does not come from the item but from the invoice for the shipment. Details: Customs invoice automatically from weclapp
  • Austrian Post only: unit and customs option as additional item fields that you assign in the carrier settings.

Bills of materials and missing data

  • Bundle or components: if the price is maintained on the bill of materials item, the app declares the bundle item with its customs data. Otherwise, the components go into the declaration individually, each with its own customs tariff number.
  • Stop before the label: if a bill of materials item is missing weight, customs tariff number, customs description or country of origin, or the value is zero, the app aborts before printing and names the item.
  • Avoid customs holds: why incomplete data becomes expensive at the destination is explained in the article Customs data in the label process.

Bulk maintenance checklist

  • Filter items without a customs tariff number in weclapp and fill them in via CSV import.
  • Check the country of origin per supplier; don't enter your own country across the board.
  • Derive the customs description from the item group, then sharpen it per item.
  • Weigh weights instead of estimating them; the weight also goes into freight calculation.
  • Test shipment to a third country with a bill of materials item, work through the error messages.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which customs tariff number do I enter, HS code or commodity code?

The commodity code you use for export; it starts with the international HS code. The app transmits the number as it stands on the item.

Does the app also check individual items without a bill of materials?

The hard stop before the label applies to bill of materials items. It's best to check individual items beforehand via a filter in weclapp; otherwise the carrier rejects missing data at the label request.

Do I have to maintain all items or only those for third countries?

Only items that go to third countries need the fields. Because orders rarely ask beforehand, maintaining them is worthwhile for the whole range you offer internationally.
